An Invitation to Re-Energize: Join Our Team for Wellness Bingo

Written by: Kristina Liland

Every November at rhum, we participate in a team Wellness Challenge. In the past, we've mainly had a focus on physical fitness, but this year we wanted to mix it up a bit!

On our monthly team chat, one of our extraordinary teammates, Ralph led us in a conversation on the 7 Types of Rest and this really got us thinking 🤔- how can we support our team by enhancing their overall well-being and helping them build a sustainable routine that creates space in our days to rest when we need it most?

The rhum team incorporated several different types of rest into a river rafting trip in Quebec last summer

The 7 types of rest

🥁 So, rhum's 2023 November Challenge this year is The Seven Types of Rest Bingo!
🙋 What are the 7 Types of Rest you ask? Great question!

1.🏋🏻 Physical Rest (both passive and active)

Examples: taking a cat nap (passive) or going to a yoga class (active)

2.😵 Sensory Rest

Examples: stepping away from your screen or keeping your phone OUT of your sleep area (treat yourself to an old-timey alarm clock ⏰ or dare to rise without an alarm if you trust yourself!)

3.💖 Emotional Rest

Examples: snuggling with your pet or spending some time with a supportive person in your life

4.🌤️ Mental Rest

Examples: Watching a sunrise/sunset or focusing on your inhale and exhale

5.🎨 Creative Rest

Examples: Take in a play or go on a nature walk and notice all the shapes and patterns that surround you

6.🧘🏻 Spiritual Rest

Examples: Engaging in some community work that speaks to your heart or taking a moment to drop into meditation

7.👨👨👧👧 Social Rest

Examples: Setting a "date" to intentionally connect with your partner or close friend or simply taking an evening to yourself if you need it

Restful habits

As a bonus to our weekly Bingo, we also added some weekend offerings to help integrate restful habits into life beyond our working hours:

⛔️🙅 Practice saying "no" to something you don't really want to do. For example, that party you were feeling obligated to go to when all you really wanted to do was stay home and take a bath.

🤔📝 Spend some time reflecting on how your week went - What are you proud of? What do you wish you'd spent more time on? What will you do differently next week?

🎭 🎨 Take in some art in your city - visit a gallery, stroll around and enjoy the street art, go see an interesting show

🤗 Tackle something that's on your bucket list - have a one-day adventure with something you've always wanted to try but haven't made time for!

Wellness is important to us !

We want our team to think of wellness as a way of life instead of a month-long event that we run every year and then promptly forget about. Taking incremental action to improve the way we feel about our days in manageable ways is just one example of how we encourage our team to make their overall health as much of a priority as their clients - when we put ourselves at the top of our to-do lists, everyone wins.

What about you ?

Interested in joining along in the fun? OF COURSE, you're invited! Please and drop your tips and habits in the comments to build up the pool of inspiration - let's normalize taking care of ourselves every day in small ways and build our collective wellness today, tomorrow, next year and beyond 🚀 ✨
